Selain telur, mie instan juga kerap kali menjadi stok bahan makanan kering. Saat malas keluar rumah atau lapar tengah malam, cukup panaskan air hingga mendidih dan masak mie instan dengan menambahkan bumbu gurihnya.

Akan tetapi, konsumsi mie instan secara terus menerus tentu tidak baik untuk kesehatan. Menurut ahli gizi, Leona Victoria Djajadi, MND kepada detikFood (03/05) mengatakan bahwa mengonsumsi mie instan setiap hari tidak dianjurkan. Karena mie instan memiliki kandungan nutrisi yang tidak lengkap. Walaupun mengenyangkan tetapi tidak bernutrisi.
Mie instan memang enak. Akan tetapi, berlebihan mengonsumsi mie instan ditakutkan mengganggu kesehatan lantaran adanya kandungan penyedap rasa dan pengawet. Bukan hanya itu saja. Kandungan karbohidrat, vitamin, mineral, dan serat bisa dibilang kurang untuk memenuhi kebutuhan tubuh. Ringkasnya mie instan tidak cukup untuk memenuhi asupan nutrisi bagi keseimbangan gizi tubuh.
Pada dasarnya mi instan itu:
1. Memilki bahan dasar tepung terigu (gandum) yang termasuk di dalam golongan bahan berkarbohidrat sehingga dalam beberapa keadaan bisa menggantikan nasi, untuk jadi sumber tenaga.
2. Tapi, yang kurang dari mi adalah kandungan seratnya yang sangat minim. Padahal makanan berserat tentu jauh lebih baik karena makanan yang tidak berserat akan diserap dan dijadikan lemak sehingga memudahkan seseorang menjadi obesitas. Obesitas sendiri dapat merembet ke berbagai penyakit seperti sumbatan pada jantung dan penyakit diabetes melitus.
3. Ada yang lebih perlu diwaspadai yaitu kandungan MSG yang terdapat di dalam bumbu-bumbu mi. MSG mi banyak mengandung bumbu pengawet yang dapat menyebabkan alergi. MSG sendiri di dalam beberapa penelitian disebutkan jika dikonsumsi terlalu sering dapat menyebabkan penyakit. Jadi ada baiknya apabila membuat mi dengan menggunakan bumbu yang dibikin sendiri.
Menurut dokter Novita, mi instan bisa dikonsumsi dengan cara :
1. Frekuensi sekitar 3 sampai 4 kali perminggunya.
2. Sangat disarankan untuk memasak mi dengan menambahkan berbagai penganan lain di dalamnya sebagai sumber serat seperti wortel, kol, sawi atau bahan berprotein seperti telur, udang atau ayam.
Prinsip utamanya adalah agar mengkonsumsi makanan secara tidak berlebihan dan bervariasi agar kebutuhan nutrisi tubuh terpenuhi dengan seimbang. Makan mie instan boleh-boleh saja, asal diatur batasannya. Jangan biasakan diri untuk mengonsumsi mie instan.
